Routes — Day 5 — Whariwharangi to Wainui Car Park (5.5km)

The last is an easy day. It should take you less than 2 hours.

Departing Whariwharangi Hut follow a small stream. Climb a low saddle overlooking Wainui Inlet. Enjoy the sea vista.

The track winds down to the shore around gorse-covered ridges recovering from a 1978 fire, then skirt the estuary to the carpark.

Cross Wainui Inlet within two hours either side of low tide.

You must make arrangements to exit Wainui by bus, boat or personal vehicle.

It is 21km to Takaka, the nearest town, a recommended stop-over if you have time.
