Other things to do near Huaraz?

For hikers, the other big treks close are:

• Santa Cruz Trek
• Huayhuash Circuit (10+ days, dangerous)
• Ausengate (6 days, many high passes)
• Colca Canyon (5 days, mucho elevation gain)
• climb Pisco 5752m
• climb Ishinca 5530m
• climb Volcano Misti 5822m
• Archaeological museum of Ancash, in Huaraz

There are fantastic day hikes out of Huaraz too, the best of which, we feel, is Laguna 69 (National Park fee will be charged). If possible stay overnight on the day hikes. This is perfect acclimatization.

For sightseeing, consider a day tour to:

• Pre-Inca ruins of Chavin de Huantar

Many hikers organize other adventures out of Huaraz, especially rock climbing, ice climbing & mountain biking.

The best thing we did there was a day of Canyoning (rapelling waterfalls) offered by the helpful & low cost Andean Kingdom adventure company.

Nobody is bored in Huaraz!
