Note: updated more frequently is our new site - besthike.com Queen Charlotte Track

At a glance:

  • this site helps independent hikers organize
  • easy coastal walk
  • over 67km (depending on exact route)
  • normally 3 nights, 4 days on the Track
  • hike with day pack only
  • tent, lodge, or backpacker accommodation (but only 1 DOC lodge)
  • food and drink available en route
  • open year round
  • options to kayak or mountain bike sections
  • some of the best weather in New Zealand

Looking down from a ridge to Queen Charlotte Sound on one side, Kenepuru Sound on the other, this is a unique hike in a unique land.

Not one of the official 10 Great Walks of New Zealand, the QCT is less crowded than most of the other tramps. You skirt bays, tramp up and down ridges, sometimes walking the spine of an isthmus, sometimes tramping along the coast.

The Queen Charlotte Track is convenient to access and simple to organize. Check the FAQs.
