Routes:  Day 3 Punga > Portage

Get an early start departing Punga as this is the longest day of the Track if you are headed to Portage. Quick hikers can do it in 5-6 hours but some take as long as 9 hours.

Take advantage of the outdoor toilet and water supply at the Bay of Many Coves DOC campsite — water sources are rare between there and Portage.

Portage is another terrific Resort, perhaps not quite as charming as Punga but still fabulous. The backpacker accommodation in cabins is terrific. The restaurant and bars more flash. <Portage website>
