Routes:  Day 4 Portage > Anakiwa > Picton

The last day of the Track you want another early start. It is a long way to Anakiwa and you cannot be late for the water taxi. (If you do miss the boat there is a Backpackers <website> at the Trailhead in Anakiwa.)

You also need time (30 minutes) to sidetrack up to the best scenic viewpoint on the Queen Charlotte.

The last day is the most varied and interesting, we reckon. The Track tends to be more crowded with day hikers and mountain bikes though.

If you can afford an extra day on the Track, head for the DOC facility at Mistletoe Bay; cabins and tent sites.

Anakiwa (return to Picton by water taxi night 4)

If you have time, walk the extra 2km or so to Tirimoana House <website> on Anakiwa road to enjoy the Blist'd Foot snack bar (coffee, cold drinks, scones) It is convenient if you are being picked up by water taxi at the Titimoana Jetty — but not if you are being picked up at the Trailhead Jetty.

There is a car park at this end of the Track — but we are not convinced it is safe to leave your vehicle there. Perhaps you could make arrangements to leave it at the Backpackers in Anakiwa.
