Why?

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

When should I hike Choquequirao?

The best time to hike is the May through September dry season.

Avoid February & March when even the Inca Trail is often closed.

Should I hike off-season?

There is no one to stop you trying any month. There are no high passes to cross, so you would likely make it to the ruins. But hiking past the ruins you may be turned back due to snow in one of the passes.

What is the weather like?

Being close to the equator, cold is not a major concern. You could get scorched on the exposed slopes on a particularly hot day, however.

The minimum temperatures certainly go down lower than freezing. Bring sufficiently warm clothing.

Muddy trails are the biggest problem. Some sections are badly chopped up by animals. January through March, when the rain is heaviest, you will get muddy.
