There are dozens of good sites on Peru. Unfortunately there are very few good Colca Canyon sites. E-mail to recommend other good web pages.

Colca Trek information

  • Besthike.com Colca Trek
  • Colca Trek, Jerusalan 401B, is the best equipped adventure tour agency in Arequipa, perhaps in Peru. E-mail ColcaTrek@hotmail.com
  • Zarate Adventures near the main plaza is a simple shop, but comes highly recommended too. We hired our transportation to the Misti volcano trek trailhead through Zarate. No problems.

Guided treks

This site is posted to help you hike to Colca Canyon without a guide. The Arequipa adventure tour offices, most on Jerusalen & Santa Catalina steets, all offer free information for hikers — though they would all prefer you hire them to take you.

If you decide to hire help, a more interesting option to us would be to hire our own guide, arriero and/or burros on-the-spot through a hotel in Cabanaconde. Put all the money into the local community. This would also be cheaper.

Burro just waiting to haul your pack.

In the background, near Cabanaconde, are mountains where the ice princess Juanita, a teenage girl sacrificed by the Incas, was discovered frozen in 1995.
