Alternatives include the much more widely available Hiking Glacier and Waterton Lakes National Parks, by Erik Molvar, Falcon Guides. The elevation profiles of hikes are useful. It rates the campgrounds (though you will likely disagree). Otherwise this is a more comprehensive, but blandly inferior hiking guidebook compared with Lonely Planet. We do not like the format.

Better is another Falcon Guide, Fishing Glacier National Park, by Russ Schneider. We recommend it.

Some hikers recommend Glacier-Waterton International Peace Park, by Vicky Spring.

Our hiking bible is Handbook of the Canadian Rockies, by Ben Gadd. The definitive Field Guide on flowers, plants, animals, insects, birds, fish, geology & history, etc.

But we also love Lone Pine Field Guides, including:
