Rick supports the concept of allowing 1 step or hop in competition without deduction especially at the younger age levels. This would reduce the number of landing injuries instantly. In Canada, regulations were put in place to allow boys to land with their feet apart (up to shoulder width) with no deduction to encourage safer landings. This worked well. Similarly, boys were required to hold a deep knee bend on landing in competition before standing up. Again, with good results. We need not feel bound by the rules used internationally.
