Flying to Peru
Reminder: Airlines do not allow you to transport camping fuel. Check with the airline to see if they allow empty fuel containers.
Lima is the main gateway city for Peru.
Peru welcomes tourists & arrival is hassle free. Check how many days you get on your travel visa.
Unfortunately Lima is one of the least popular tourist cities in South America; dry, congested & polluted.
We recommend you spend as little time in Lima (which is close to sea level) as possible. The sooner you get to Huaraz (3090m), the sooner you start acclimatizing to altitude.
There are no commercial flights to Huaraz. Most hikers take one of the many available buses.
