Sept - Kyle voted one of top 10 Alberta male athletes of all time by Our Alberta magazine.

Kyle wins Male Athlete of the Year at the 32nd Annual Canadian Sport Awards. Congratulations! Kelly Manjak was a runner up for Coach of the Year.

Sept 30 - Kyle on cover of his home town paper as representative for the Herald's Raise-a-Reader campaign. The campaign raises funds for local literacy programs.

Sept 14 - Canadian Country Music Awards. Kyle presents Carolyn Dawn Johnson album of the year trophy.

Sept 1 - Calgarians celebrate Olympic champion

Aug 30 - You get what you pay for. Ken Read speaks out.
Kyle Shewfelt wins an Olympic gold and 10 gymnastics programs in Calgary report that their phones are ringing off the hook.

Aug 23 - The largest Canadian Olympic TV audience for any sport was 1.817 million watching Kyle Shewfelt's performance on the vault, in which he finished fourth. Shewfelt won the gold medal on Floor the previous day.

Aug 15 - Kyle, his parents, his aunt, his girlfriend Melissa and her Mom were featured on Canadian TV from Athens. Team Shewfelt. Kyle is relaxed and confident.

Kyle, Kelly and gymnasts from Altadore gymnastics were featured on a CBC TV documentary on Olympic judge Chris Grabowecky, a former Altadore gymnast.

Aug 14 - No money for medals. Kyle comments on the Canadian Olympic Committee position.

Aug 14 - He'll toe the line. Calgary gymnast Shewfelt won't repeat Sydney misstep.

Aug 7 - CBC TV Newsworld SPORTS JOURNAL spotlights Olympic judge Chris Grabowecky, one of the original Altadore male gymnasts. Kyle & other Altadore athletes are featured. Check local listings in Canada. Repeated the following weekend.

July 26 - Canadian Olympic Team departs for Madrid for dual meet & training camp on full set of Olympic equipment. Kyle slated to compete 4 events in Athens: Floor, Rings, Vault & Horizontal Bar. The team travels to the Games after August 6th.

July 24 - Calgary a hotbed for Olympic Gymnasts? (Cam Maxwell)

June - Kyle saw plenty of media at National Championships 2004 in Toronto. He was excellent in a lengthy interview with Scott Russell on CBC TV.

June - Calgary athletes contending for Athens Olympics

June 3 - Kyle‘s Altadore team mate Michael Doyle wins Level 6 age group National Championships. Adam Silbernagel from Altadore named to National Team (under age 12) for second year-in-a-row. Adam was 2nd of boys age 10.

May 26 - Kyle sits out National Championships due to injury. The foot is nearly healed — he is tumbling & vaulting every training — but is not yet in top routine shape. Gymn.ca interview. Kyle expects to be 100% for Olympic Trials in July.

May 6 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Kyle, now 22-years-old. But it was training as usual at Altadore. Kyle is preparing for National Championships & Team Camp in Toronto, end of May.

May - Kyle named Gymnastics Canada Gymnast of the Year for the second year-in-a-row. Kelly named Coach of the Year for second-year-in-a-row.

May - Altadore hosts training camp for Alberta Men’s Team to Nationals. Olympic Team candidates Adam Wong, Grant Golding, Nathan Gafuik, Brandon O’Neill & Jared Walls trained together in preparation for the upcoming camp and competition.

May - Kyle, Kylie Stone & Grant Golding recognized at the Calgary Chamber of Commerce official sendoff for Olympians. A highlight was a speach by the world’s fastest paralympian Earle Connor.

April - Award winning journalist Lisa Bowes visited Altadore to film for CBC TV Sports Journal. The spot will feature first time Olympic judge Chris Grabowecky from Calgary preparing for Athens. Chris was one of the first boys to join Altadore ... many, many years ago. Also filmed were Altadore gymnasts in competition, Kyle & Kelly. The show will air likely in July 2004.

April - Olympic vault horse arrived at Altadore. Kyle can now train on the same Pegasus horse, collar, & hand mat which will be used at the Athens Olympics. This small edge can make the difference at the highest level of competition. Thanks to the Canadian Sport Centre Calgary who facilitated this project.

April - Kyle trains a week in California with National Team.

March - Kyle finished a close second in voting by Calgary media for Calgary Booster Club 2003 male athlete of the year. Jeremy Wotherspoon, the winningest male speed skater in World Cup history, also won athlete of the year after an amazing 2003 season.

February — Kyle’s coach Kelly Manjak the youngest of 10 Athletic Leaders honoured by the Calgary Booster Club for long term commitment. He was feted at an awards dinner in March.

February 13th — 10-year-old Altadore gymnast Adam Silbernagel featured on local TV with Kyle & Kelly. Adam was named CFCN Athlete of the Week during National Gymnastics Week. Adam finished 3rd all around in the under 12 category at Elite Canada. Kyle, at the same time, has a feature running in heavy rotation on Shaw TV Sports, channel 10 in Calgary.

February 2004 — Kristy’s World Famous Gymnasts names Kyle one of the Gymnasts of the Month.

Jan / Feb Impact Magazine - Kyle's photo used to illustrate an article on High Performance nutrition. Canadian Sport Centre dietician Kelly Anne Erdman points out that at least 15% of commercially available dietary supplements are contaminated with undeclared ingredients. ... we can’t trust labels.

February - A Kyle Shewfelt poster and framed autographed picture were auctioned to support Gymnastics Canada.


2003

December - Kyle named one of his home town’s 20 Compelling Calgarians to watch in 2004. (mention & photo in Inside Gymnastics)

December - Kyle gets support from the See You in Athens fund. A wonderful organization.

December - Kyle included in The Year in Pictures, International Gymnast magazine

November 30 – Gold medal on Floor in Stuttgart 9.862 (GCG)

November 29 – Bronze medal Vault in Stuttgart (GCG)

Kyle tied for top male gymnast in Stuttgart with 20 GyMedia Superscore points.

Did you see the October issue of International Gymnast magazine? Great coverage of Kyle (2 large photos), Kylie Stone & David Kikuchi. The November issue was even better with a 2 page photo spread.

October 25 – SHEWFELT WINS GOLD ON FLOOR (GCG)

Kyle maintained his first place qualifying rank winning floor exercise (9.725) at the Glasgow Grand Prix edging out reigning Olympic champion Igor Vikhrovs of Latvia and former world champion Marian Dragalescu of Romania. Edmonton’s Brandon O’Neil scored 9.6 for fourth. Kyle finished 6th on Vault.

9.862 in Stuttgart!

Kyle tied for top male gymnast in Stuttgart with 20 GyMedia Superscore points.

November 30 – Gold medal on Floor in Stuttgart 9.862 (GCG)
Second win in as many World Cup events. Kyle is the man to beat.

Kyle lost only 0.15 from each of his vaults. Near perfect.

British judge Ron Smith, a big fan of Kyle's, calls for changes to the code of points to reward imaginative routines over (boring) stock ones.

New Zealand judge Mike Ranger was quoted as saying that no gymnast since Minichelli (in the 1960s) has changed expectations on Floor like Kyle. His style is revolutionary.

Whip-1 1/2, punch front full, Rudi (stuck cold); 2 1/2 twist, front layout, punch front 1 3/4 (incredible amplitude and form); full-twisting back handspring to prone (crowd loved that!); roundoff, layout arabian, jump full twist to prone (unique, more applause!); double-double dismount in an open tuck position, with a tiny hop. The crowd just loved Kyle's routine, and gave him a tremendous ovation! Kyle waved to the crowd, showing his appreciation. Excellent routine.
