Yes. Many do. It's no problem.

There is every chance you will meet & join up with other hikers. The huts are very sociable in the evenings.

Should I join the organized tour?

We are independent hikers. This website is designed for those who like to organize their own trip.

But no, it is not necessary to join the guided tour even if you have limited hiking experience.

But if you want to carry a light pack, you can sign on for a much different experience — cushy huts, hot showers, flash meals and booze.

Guided hikers pay about 5 times as much (about NZ$1700 in 2003) as independents for the same hike.

Can I bring children?

Certainly!

Normally, children younger than age 10 are discouraged on the Milford. That said, if you have a very experienced hiker younger than 10, inquire when you contact the Tourist Information Centre.
