When should I hike?
Well, an optimist might say May to October. If you have a choice, book for August or September, coinciding with the lowest possible tides. The Trail will be more crowded but youve got a better chance for some sunny days.
The Uchuck ferry runs only from about July 4th to September 15th so this is your window if you want to take the ferry. Otherwise you'd need to fly both ways or arrange a small boat.

Can I hike off-season?
During the winter you are guaranteed heavy rain, high tides, & bone-chilling winds. Storms may confine you to your tent. Days are short at this latitude. The trail is not maintained nor patrolled.
The Uchuck doesnt travel to Friendly Cove in the winter.
Yes you could hike off-season. Let us know if anyone survives the Nootka in winter.
