    3. Recommended Routes — Ferry in

If you decide to come in on the Uchuck ferry to the Nootka, you will likely hike 7, 4, or 3 nights — based on the ferry schedule.

It is better to fly in if you can afford it. The only advantage of coming in by ferry is the much lower cost. The disadvantage is that you will be backtracking to return to the ferry. It could be a much longer hike this way.

Below are a few recommended itineraries for those arriving on the Uchuck ferry.

Ferry in to the Nootka trailhead (map) — arrive Wednesday or Saturday

    7 nights on the trail

Start from Yuquot, Friendly Cove. We recommend you stay at these 7 campsites:

  • (wilderness campsite near Maquinna Point)
  • Beano Creek
  • Calvin Falls
  • Third Beach
  • Calvin Falls
  • (wilderness campsite near Maquinna Point)
  • Tidal Lagoon (south side)

No rest days, you’d probably be hiking every day. Maps.

Ferry in to the Nootka trailhead — arrive Wednesday, leave Saturday

    3 nights on the trail

  • (wilderness campsite near Maquinna Point)
  • Beano Creek
  • (wilderness campsite near Maquinna Point)

You'll need to hustle if you want to get to Beano. Of course there's no need to go that far. Stay in the headlands for all 3 nights, if you like.
