Other things to do near Huaraz?

For hikers, the other big treks close are:

• Alpamayo Base Camp (difficult)
• Huayhuash Circuit (10+ days, dangerous)
• Archaeological museum of Ancash, in Huaraz

There are fantastic day hikes out of Huaraz & Caraz too, the best of which, we feel, are Laguna Peron & Laguna 69 (National Park fee will be charged for 69). If possible stay overnight on the day hikes. This is perfect acclimatization.

For sightseeing, consider a day tour to:

• Pre-Inca ruins of Chavin de Huantar

Many hikers organize other adventures out of Huaraz, especially rock climbing, ice climbing & mountain biking.

The best thing we did there was a day of Canyoning (rapelling waterfalls) offered by the helpful & low cost Andean Kingdom adventure company.

Nobody is bored in Huaraz!
