The best way to appreciate 3 astonishing volcanos is to climb up and around them.

One of the official Great Walks of New Zealand, the Northern Circuit is fascinating. You can warm yourself at steaming vents, slide down volcanic scoria, marvel at aquamarine water filled explosion holes, tramp craters & puzzle at bizarre volcanic formations.

Wait for good weather before setting out. Wind & low cloud sometimes make this hike a miserable slog in the fog.

The Tongariro Circuit is easy to access and organize. Check the FAQs.
