Accommodation in Bamfield

Bamfield is a pleasant town with about 500 full-time residents. It’s a jumping-off-point for fishing & kayaking, as well as for the WCT. It offers some good day hiking too if you have some extra hours here. Tim Leadem in West Coast Trail and Nitinat Lakes describes hikes to the Cape Beal lighthouse & Keeha Bay.

The original town on the west side of the inlet is more interesting than the east side.

We love this town. It’s no hardship to spend time in Bamfield. Don't count on getting supplies here. The closest city with a range of outfitting options is Port Alberni.

Like Port Renfrew, it's a long walk from downtown to the Trailhead. Most hikers arrange a taxi.

Hotels

For Bamfield accommodation, check out the Chamber of Commerce web site:

Bed & Breakfasts

Camping

The most convenient is the Pachena Beach campground at lovely Pachena Beach close to the Pachena Bay trailhead.

Restaurants

Check out the Boardwalk Bistro in the Bamfield Lodge. We also like the Hawks Nest Pub.

Accommodation in Nitinat Village (Dididaht).

Nitinat is a very remote town. But many people make their way there since reliable thermal winds make Nitinat Lake one of the world's best windsurfing destinations. Your best bet for accommodation is Nitinat Lake Motel, (604) 745-3844, though you can camp as well — Dididaht Cheewhat Backcountry Campsite has been recommended. They have a gas station / convenience store too!

If you are interested in exiting the WCT at Nitinat, you should telephone the Nitinat Lake Visitor Centre – (250) 745-8124. Ask about:

  • Water taxi from the Narrows to the village
  • Parking at the village (if needed)
  • Transportation out of Nitinat village
  • Accommodation in Nitinat village
