Avoiding the Crowds

Consider leaving earlier in the morning, or later in the day than the majority of hikers at your campsite.

It is easy to get away from people (for a while) by side-tripping from the forest Trail to the sea. You might even find a wilderness campsite somewhere off the beaten track.

Patrol Cabins

There are no shelters along the trail. Hikers will not be housed in patrol cabins. The lighthouses will not offer shelter from the storm. Make sure you have the gear to wait-out a gale.

Pacific Rim National Park

The West Coast Trail is part of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve which was established in 1970. The other sections of Pacific Rim are:

  • Long Beach
  • Broken Island Group
