We like Cribs. It's a pretty campsite with good water.
Look for a pit toilet just in the woods on the Bamfield side of the creek. It is arguably the ripest facility on the trail, although Klanawa is bad as well.
Headed for Bamfield, we recommend you stay on the shore if you can. It's quicker than the ups & downs of the forest trail but you need very low tides through to Dare Point. On the shoreline is at least 1 difficult surge channel. On the shore too, near km 39, you must scale a low cliff made famous by Blisters & Bliss for the single grapefruit-sized foothold that every hiker must use.
If you do take the forest trail you'll enjoy some lovely cliffside views down over the beach, especially if the sun is shining. Both forest and shore are good options through this section.
On the forest trail in 1999 we ate at another restaurant called Club 37 near km 37. Pancakes, grilled cheese sandwiches, burgers, & cold refreshments! Club 37 is ancient history now it survived only part of one season.
There are plenty of interesting campsites between Cribs & Nitinat but finding water may be a problem. If it is raining, you may be able to set up a tarp as a rain catcher. Alternately, you could carry enough water from Cribs to get you through 1 night. You would have the beach to yourself!
Obey all posted signs there are some sections where you are not allowed to leave the Trail.
You will cross the beautiful bridge, built 1976, over the Cheewhat (River of Urine) but that tidal water source is very saline. Most hikers won't drink it.
More detail Cribs to Tsusiat Falls.
Headed for Port Renfrew from Cribs, you can take the forest or the shore.
