Michigan Creek

Tip. You might want to use the BACK button to return to the previous page when finished.

Michigan is an extremely popular campsite as it is the closest official camp near Bamfield. Often you will find hundreds or thousands of seagulls there too.

"Bear cache" food lockers are available at this campsite.

Hikers almost always see & hear whales from this campsite.

At low tide, look for the boiler of the Michigan (sunk 1893).

Our advice is that you try to find somewhere else to camp rather than Michigan. By the end of the season it is often stripped of firewood. (It's one campsite where you will wish you brought that saw.)

One of the few forest sites at Michigan.

Heading towards Bamfield, take the forest Trail to the Pachena Lighthouse. Water is available there.

Look for sea lions from the lighthouse.

From the lighthouse to the Pachena trailhead travel on an overgrown road. It's not quite wheelchair accessible, but almost.

There are not nearly enough viewpoints from the road over the sea. We recommend that you schedule time to sidetrip — and even look for a wilderness campsite on this section.

Heading towards Port Renfrew, stay on the shelf departing the campsite & stay on the beach through to Darling River. You will come upon a nice beach cave en route — unfortunately it's always been occupied every time we've passed by.
