Walbran Creek

Tip. You might want to use the BACK button to return to the previous page when finished.

Walbran marks the divide between the easier (Bamfield) & difficult (Port Renfrew) sections of the Trail.

Walbran can be crossed by cable car if the water is high.

The fine campsite (on the Port Renfrew side) offers good swimming if the weather is warm enough.

Be sure to camp high enough as some tents have been flooded at Walbran.

If you are camping at Walbran, consider taking a sidetrip without a pack to check out (look at) Adrenaline Surge. Exploring the shelf is much more fun when you don't have to carry a heavy pack.

Headed towards Bamfield, most hikers descend to the shore & boogie the beach all the way to Carmanah. After wading Walbran Creek, it takes less than 15 minutes walking the coast until you reach sand beach. After all the shelf & forest walking of the last few days, it’s a nice change to reach long sand beaches.

There is a bypass trail around Vancouver Point if you are unable to stay on the shore due to high tides.

Heading toward Port Renfrew, take the forest Trail through to the suspension bridge at Logan. Straightforward muddy slogging.

The alternative is to take the shelf & try to cross dangerous Adrenaline Surge — only recommended for skilled hikers with proper gear. Serious injuries & at least one death have been caused by Adrenaline. We always bypass Adrenaline.
